As of 1st July 2021 shipping from the UK to any member state of the EU is changing. All orders shipped to an EU member country WILL attract a VAT charge at your local rate upon import. On top of this charge, there will be a charge from the delivery company/government for processing this fee. We are working on becoming VAT registered in the EU so we can charge VAT at the time of purchase, but at the moment we are still awaiting paperwork, and this could take many months.
If you are ordering from a country located within the EU, from 1st July 2021, after ordering, we will send you an email confirming your understanding of the charges that will be applied to your order when it is imported. We will not dispatch any order until we receive confirmation from you, via email, that you accept any charges which may be applied upon import. To make sure you receive this email please add our email address email@example.com to your safe sender list or check your junk/spam folder in your email.
We understand that this is far from ideal, but we are working hard to get the appropriate paperwork sorted as quickly as possible.

We are a small family-run business and even with the time, care and attention is takes to make our products, we have been able to ship orders the same, or next working day.
Due to family health issues, for the next few months, our ability to make our nests, outworlds and kits is going to be hampered. Any orders containing any of our products could take up to 7 working days to dispatch. We will be doing our best to ship orders as quickly as possible, and hopefully, we will be able to dispatch within the 7 day window.
All byFormica products will continue to be dispatched as normal, generally the same or next working day, as well as other products that we do not have to physically make, like queens ants, heat cables, test tubes, tweezers etc.
We ship with Royal Mail for all domestic orders, and UPS and Royal Mail for international orders. For non-UK orders, with Royal Mail, the parcel may be given to the local delivery agent. All delivery times are approximate and not guaranteed.
We only sell products we have in stock, but if for some reason there is a problem, we will try and contact you by phone or email. We try not to send alternatives unless authorised. If we are unable to contact you, we may part ship your order. Please let us know if you prefer to wait or refund the remaining items.
We will not dispatch live ants on Fridays or Saturdays or in periods of extreme hot or cold weather. We don't want the queen/colony sitting in any extremes of temperature in a van or sorting office longer than needed. Delivery is by 'RM24/1st Class Signed For' post only, and please make sure that there will be someone around for delivery. The 'live arrival guarantee' is invalid if nobody is in to receive the ants and/or they are returned to the post or sorting office.
All orders over £65 and orders including ants must use Royal Mail 24 / Royal Mail 1st Class, with Signature Required.
Royal Mail 24 / 1st Class (Signature Required) - Normally 1-2 working days. Usually delivered Mon-Sat. Requires a signature.
Royal Mail 24 / 1st Class - Normally 1-2 working days. Usually delivered Mon-Sat.Royal Mail 48 / 2nd Class - Normally 3-5 working days. Usually delivered Mon-Sat.
All orders will be scanned by Royal Mail on delivery.
UK customers can specify a 'safe place' for their parcel to be left in the event that they are not in (e.g. with neighbour etc.). Please use the comments box when checking out.
Outside the UK
We always ship orders with 'Royal Mail International Tracked' or UPS. This means your order is tracked from here all the way to your door. In some cases, a signature might be required. We are currently migrating to UPS for international orders, so if you see a 'No delivery option available at checkout, please contact us and we will advise.
UPS - Normally delivered between 1 and 10 working days.
Royal Mail International Tracked - Normally delivered between 3 and 20 working days.
Any taxes or duties due when the order arrives in your country are your responsibility, please check your local taxes and regulations. If a charge is applied, your government/customs might add a 'service/processing charge' as might/will UPS and Royal Mail.
Our returns policy is in accordance with the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 and forms part of our Terms and Conditions of Sale. If you have any specific queries regarding our returns policy please email firstname.lastname@example.org
- Only applies to personal customers. Does not apply to business customers
- All returns must be authorised and use the full returns address provided
- Carriage costs for returning the Goods is the customer's responsibility
- The Goods remain the customers responsibility during transit and until signed for by us
- All goods must be returned within 30 days the RMA date of issue
- Items must be unused. They may be opened to check if they suit, but must be unused
- All original packaging must be included
- The item must be returned in a suitable condition whereby it can be resold
